HoliDates Installation Notes:

Buy HoliDates. Download the HoliDates application. Unzip the downloaded HoliDates.zip file and save the product files to your system.

Note: Zip files are a very common way of packaging multiple files into one smaller file to reduce the download time and disk space requirements. If you don’t have a zip utility and would like to obtain one, two of the most popular are WinZip and StuffIt.  Both of these offer a free trial to check them out. However, if you don’t want to obtain a zip utility, please contact with your purchase information, mention that you don’t have a zip utility and ask to have the individual files mailed to you.

To add the HoliDates database (holidates2.pdb) and application (holidates.prc) with the Palm Install tool:

1. Open the Palm Desktop

2. Open the Install Tool.

3. Select your User ID (if you have multiple users sharing the desktop)

4. Click [Add]

5. Browse to wherever you saved the files.

6. Add the two files HoliDates.pdb and Holidates.prc (You must install both files)

7. Click [Done]

8. Perform a HotSync operation.

I just purchased and installed HoliDates, but it is telling me that it is unregistered. Why?

The trial version and the full version are the same. As part of the purchase process, you should have received an Unlock Key (registration code). Go into HoliDates on your Palm device and enter the Unlock Key. This will allow you to see dates through 2010 (vs. only the trial dates when unregistered) and will remove the demo messages.

Where do I get an Unlock Key?

Within minutes after your purchase HoliDates, your Unlock Key (registration code)will be mailed to you. If you lost this message or didn’t receive it, contact for assistance in obtaining your Unlock Key. Once your purchase has been verified, your code will be mailed to you again.

How do I enter the Unlock Key?

When you start HoliDates, a screen will popup teliing you it is an unregistered copy. Click on the “Register” button and the Unlock Key in the field labeled “Unlock Key”. You can also get to the Registration page by selecting “Register” from the menu on the start page of HoliDates.

The unlock key is based on your HotSync ID. If you receive a message saying that your unlock key is invalid, then your Actual HotSync ID is somehow different (e.g. a capitalization mismatch or a hidden space) than the one you provided during the purchase process. Contact support@theripplefactory.com for a new unlock key. Please include the RegCode (e.g. 12:34:4A:3C - not the old unlock key) that is displayed on the Register page right above where you tried entering the unlock key. That information will be used to generate a new unlock key.

I installed HoliDates but can’t see the dates:

First make sure that your have installed both the apllication (holidates.prc) and the database (holidates2.pdb). You must install both files.

After installation, on your Palm device there should be a HoliDates application. The icon for the application will likely be in the launcher within the unfiled category. The dates are contained within HoliDates. Select a category of interest such as "U.S." and click [View]. HoliDates allows you to browse upcoming holidays in a list format.

If you would like to add them into your Date Book, then within HoliDates, select a category such as "U.S.", click [View]. On the list next to each holiday is a check box. You can check them individually, or use an option on the Menu to select->all. Once the boxes are checked, click [Install]. Holidates will install all holidays that are checked into your DateBook. A little cursive ‘i’ icon will appear next to each holiday to let you know that is installed. You can click on the ‘i’ to take you directly to that holiday in Date Book. Removing one or more holidays from Date Book works the same way. Most religious holidays include a brief description. Tap the religious holiday’s name and the description will pop-up.

Can’t see events added to Date Book in its Month View

Holidays are added to Date Book as an “untimed event”. Set your preference in Date Book to show “untimed events” in Month View. To do this, go into Date Book. Click on the menu. Select “Options”. Select “Display Options”. Check the box that says “Show untimed events” in Month View.
